“Because Louise McColl Cares …”

Seeing the TV ads for Louise McColl’s NC Senate campaign brings back memories.  Some years ago, the events planning firm of Jordan-McColl took on a project for NC Marine Crescent, a regional economic development agency I was working for at the time.  While working with my office, Jordan-McColl was also putting together a July 4th celebration for the City of Wilmington.

Aware of my involvement in the music community, Louise McColl invited me to the first meeting of the planning committee for the July 4th event.  I attended and learned that they wanted live music, but hadn’t budgeted a dime for it … that same old song.  Asked to contact local players and persuade them to perform out of patriotic impulses and community spirit, I declined.  I suggested that they contact some music teachers who might recommend participation to their students for the experience, named a few known music teachers, provided Jordan-McColl a copy of my talent database on disk in a format that would work for them, and disassociated myself from the celebration.

Turned down by the first few musicians she contacted, Louise McColl contacted my boss at the Marine Crescent and told him that I’d been stirring up trouble for her by phoning area musicians during working hours.  In actual fact, I hadn’t contacted anyone about it from the office or home during any hours whatsoever, but Louise McColl felt compelled to endanger my job over the matter.  That’s the NC Senate candidate whose ads portray her as a warm, grandmotherly type whose heart goes out to seniors and seagulls and so on.
