My baby brought
this little ol' harmonica to me
Y'all settle down
'cause the song is in E
And I got down and I
put my mouth on that thing
My baby sat down
and she started to grin
I said. "You
like it that much, I'll surely play it again
And I got down and I
put my mouth on that thing
I kept on playin'
'til I started to sweat
My baby said,
"You ain't even started yet"
And I got down and I
put my mouth on that thing
She started to
boogie like she'd caught her a chill
I said, "If that
lick don't get it, the next one will"
And I got down and I
put my mouth on that thing
She said, "I
sho' likes the way you blow"
So I puckered my lips
and got the notes down low
And I got down and I
put my mouth on that thing
She said,
"Keep on playin' and don't you stop"
And she was whoopin'
so loud, I thought she'd bring in a cop
And I got down and I
put my mouth on that thing
My baby brought
this little ol' harmonica to me
Y'all settle down
'cause the song is in E
And I got down and I
put my mouth on that thing
The first time I heard Washboard Sam's novelty number,
"Just Kept Rubbin' On The Darned Old Thing," I knew I
had to parallel it on my own instrument. It's one of the most
requested tunes at my live shows, and a great way to kill some
time while Dave replaces a broken guitar string. It also promotes
that legendary offstage skill associated with harp players.
